As registered provisional psychologist, I bring empathy, warmth, patience, and a non-judgmental stance into the therapeutic relationship, creating a safe and supportive environment where clients feel truly heard and understood. I am also a multilingual registered provisional psychologist, offering individual therapy and career counselling in both English and Cantonese, while being also being professionally fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alberta with a major in psychology and a minor in Mandarin Chinese language. I then completed a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.
I have a passion for working with senior high school students, adults, and seniors who are navigating various types of life, career, cultural, and academic transitions. I support individuals to gain self-awareness and find meaning, purpose, and direction within their life and career paths while managing uncertainty, anxiety, and stress.
In addition, I also enjoy working with young adult couples helping them with a range of issues such as communication skills and building a sense of of connection. My training for couples counselling is using the Gottman Method (Level 1) and I always tailor my approach based on your needs.
As a registered provisional psychologist, in addition to providing career counselling, I also work with performance anxiety, social anxiety, and imposter syndrome. I have a special interest in promoting growth-mindsets and building resilience. Furthermore, I counsel individuals with ADHD to improve their organization and planning skills, as well as helping them to address procrastination, avoidance, motivation, and emotion regulation concerns. I also have experience helping students to improve study habits and test-taking anxiety.
I also enjoy helping people to navigate the emotional and psychological impact of moving cities, countries, or communities to pursue career goals while navigating evolving cultural identities and relationships. I have a deep desire to help those who feel lost or uncertain by empowering them and helping them to rebuild a sense of purpose that fosters healthier choices and lifestyles.
Background
Prior to working as a registered provisional psychologist, I gained over a decade of combined experience working and volunteering at the University of Alberta in various positions including as an undergraduate student advisor. I gained extensive experience working with international students, undergraduate and graduate students, students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), business, arts, education, and social sciences, to name a few.
I gained experience advising students who faced academic struggles, and counselled and guided students on learning and studying skills. I also gained leadership skills at the University of Alberta while training staff, supervising student groups, and guiding large-scale projects, one of which was featured in a major news outlet.
