Couples Counselling – Registered Psychologist in South Edmonton

As a registered psychologist in south Edmonton, I am currently offering both in-person and online sessions for couples counselling.

Do you feel like you and your partner are repeating the same hurtful cycles of interaction over and over again? Do you feel lonely and isolated within your relationship even though you spend a lot of time together? Are you ready to feel more alive within your relationship and connected?

If you are ready to heal the interpersonal wounds from your past, and transcend the limiting communication patterns that are keeping you and your partner stuck, then relationship and online couples counselling may be for you.

Couples counselling is helpful for anyone wanting to enhance their existing relationship. You might be married, engaged, dating, or separated. Some couples are seeking pre-marital counselling to know if they are ready, the right match, or to become better prepared. For many couples they come to counselling to work through common issues such as lack of intimacy and closeness, infidelity, betrayal, sexual and libido issues, poor communication, role conflicts, transitions, losses, and parenting styles, to name a few.

Other couples seek out counselling to determine if they are going to part ways. If this is the case, couples counselling may help you to preserve your friendship, and to be able to separate or divorce in a more peaceful manner.

My peers and supervisors have told me that my approach is very strengths-based. I genuinely look for the positives and resilient qualities in each couple.  My approach is integrative yet grounded in an emotion-focused approach that has been backed by empirical research.

I provide a safe environment in which I facilitate couples to be open and vulnerable in making emotional contact, process unresolved emotions and patterns of disconnection or conflict, and help them practice how to strengthen their relational bond.  This helps to promote a more secure attachment and strong foundation on which couples can begin to address other issues.

Based on my experience, I know that many couples attend counselling to learn and practice communication and conflict management skills, and to problem solve various issues within their relationship.  I have studied many of the strategies and interventions that have come out of the research from the Gottman Institute.  You can learn more about this research here: https://www.gottman.com/about/research/couples/

How Long Are Our Sessions?

A standard session is 50 minutes long ($220/hour); however some couples prefer 80 min sessions ($330/hour) to deepen the intensity of their sessions and to allow more space for exploration or discussion.
